"OAT - outside air temperature probe"
By Edward Kraus
This is an outside air temperature probe (OAT). It's mounted on the windshield of the aircraft to measure the outside air temperature while in flight. It can get quite cold when you go up thousands of feet and it's important to assess the icing potential when flying in visible moisture. This picture was taken at around 7,000 feet altitude. The temperature reads -28C which is pretty chilly even for 7,000 feet.
